Our son Alex has been rehearsing with Spotlight Theatre, a local community youth theatre group, for the upcoming production of “Who We Are”. This musical was written and is being directed by local talent, Margot Begin-Gillis (also director of the Truro Dance Academy where our girls dance). It features songs from a number of different musicals as the characters explore many challenging life issues. The show will be performed on July 19th at 7:00 pm, and July 20th at 2:00pm. and 7:00 pm. Tickets ($17) are available at the Marigold Cultural Centre Box Office. We hope to see you there!
The Town of Truro is fortunate to have an arts and cultural centre to host various live performances and arts education programs and, as a bonus, it is located just a ten minute (if that) walk from us.
The Marigold Centre houses a 206 seat theatre, a small art gallery, a work shop for arts in education programs, a sports heritage hall, and a large open concession and meeting area. With the strong support of the Cobequid Arts Council, the town, and many community minded individuals, the Marigold Centre provides a wide variety of cultural programming.
The Marigold Centre theatre provides a first rate venue to accommodate a broad spectrum of live entertainment featuring local and touring artists and performers. The phenomenal acoustics and size of the theatre offer an up close, intimate setting to enjoy each presentation.
We encourage visitors staying at the Belgravia should check the schedule of events at the Marigold Centre. Perhaps there may be a jazz concert, play or other live performance that would be of interest for an evening’s entertainment.
The Marigold Student Theatre Company (MSTC) is a newly formed group comprised entirely of talented students aged 16-20 who share a vision of the theatre as a Lab in which to practice and learn the art of performance. All aspects of the company, including the Cast, Pit Band, Director and Production team, are made up of students with a desire to learn and a passion for performance. For their first production, they will present the delightfully wicked musical comedy “Little Shop of Horrors”. The show will run at the Marigold for three nights; August 4th,5th and 6th, and without a doubt will prove to be an amazing show.
